The practice of David F. Young, M.D., P.C. is here to provide you and your family with quality dermatology care. We are community boosters and local residents who are independent of outside ownership.

Our practice is patient-centered and is focused on providing the least cost, utmost compassionate care in the most efficient way. With a Board Certified Dermatologist on site four days a week, on call 24/7, plus three experienced providers, we are available when you need us.

We diagnose and treat all types of skin diseases and disorders of the skin, hair, and nails for patients of all ages from newborn to seniors. We can schedule appointments quickly for both new and established patients. In most cases referring providers can request same-day or next-day appointments for their patients.

Actinic Keratosis:

The most common form of precancerous lesion.  Usually is a rough, scaly patch on your skin that develops from years of exposure to the sun. Treatment options include freezing by liquid nitrogen and light therapy for areas that have multiple lesions.

Precancerous moles:

Usually mole not uniform in color or shape or is new or changing that has capability to turn into melanoma. These should be checked out immediately. The following picture is an example of what to look for in a mole

Skin Cancer

  • Basal Cell Carcinoma
    The most common form of skin cancer.  Begins in lower part of the outer layer of skin and rarely metastasizes.  Often results from long term exposure to sunlight and tanning beds.
  • Squamous Cell Carcinoma
    Common form of skin cancer that is found in tissues that form the middle and outer layers of the skin.  Most of the time results from prolonged exposure to sunlight or tanning beds.
  • Malignant Melanoma
    The most dangerous form of skin cancer. Most melanoma cells still make melanin, so melanoma tumors are usually brown or black. But some melanomas do not make melanin and can appear pink, tan, or even white.  Melanomas can develop anywhere on the skin, but they are more likely to start on the trunk (chest and back) in men and on the legs in women.

    As the saying goes – an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.  When it comes to your skin be proactive and the treatments are usually far less intensive.

    We employ the least invasive and most cost effective methods to give the best care to our patients.

     Used for treatment of pre-cancerous lesions as well as some forms of superficial basal cell carcinoma

David Young, MD

American Board of Dermatology

David F. Young, M.D. is a 5th generation Oregonian who received his undergraduate education at Stanford University and the University of Massachusetts, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a BA in education. He received his M.D. from University of Oregon, Oregon Health and Science University. Dr. Young went on to do a post graduate internship at the Veteran’s Medical Center in Martinez California/UCSF. He did his specialty training in Dermatology at University of California Irvine where he was awarded the Most Outstanding Resident award.

Dr. Young is a Board Certified Dermatologist who performs skin cancer surgery in his office.

Dr. Young returned to Oregon in 1981 and opened his practice in Grants Pass, where he continues to provide quality care for the citizens of Grants Pass and the surrounding area. He is the consulting Dermatologist for Asante Three Rivers Community Hospital and a founding member of AllCare IPA. He is on site rather than an out of state owner.

Esther Carson, PA-C

Esther graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology. She then went on to graduate from the University of Nebraska with a Master of Physician Associate Studies.

Esther joined the United States Air Force in 1994 and separated in 2002 as a Captain. While in the Air Force she worked as a practitioner in pediatrics, family practice, newborn intensive care, and dermatology.

Before joining Dr. Young in 2010, Esther practiced dermatology with Dr. Linda Ilizaliturri for eight years in Green Valley, Arizona.

During her time with Dr. Young, Esther has proven to be an excellent practitioner and true advocate for her patients.

Christa Cavanaugh, PA-C

Christa Cavanaugh, PA-C graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and then went on to earn a Masters of Medical Science in Physician Associate studies from Arcadia University in 2008. She is a member of both the American Academy of Physician Associates and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.

After school, Christa joined Chadds Ford Dermatology where she spent the next ten years providing quality care to families in the suburbs of Philadelphia.

Christa recently relocated to southern Oregon. She enjoys seeing patients of all ages for a variety of medical dermatology needs. She looks forward to making all of her patients feel comfortable in their own skin.

Drew Lakey, PA-C

Drew Lakey, PA-C attended the University of California San Diego, graduating Cum Laude in 2017, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology with a Minor in Psychology. She went on to Radford University Carilion in Roanoke, Virginia where she graduated with a Masters of Medical Science in Physician Associate Studies.

Drew is a member and Diplomate Fellow with the Society of Dermatology Physician Associates.  She is also a member of the America Academy of Physician Associates. During her studies Drew received the Provost Honors from Muir College at UCS and the Pathmaker Intern Patient Care Award.

Before joining our practice Drew most recently practiced at the Skin and Cancer Institute in Bakersfield, CA.

Drew is new to southern Oregon and is enjoying her time discovering everything our area has to offer. Drew enjoys all areas of medical dermatology and looks forward to helping patients with their dermatology needs.
